The Hollenbeck Youth Center and the Inner-City Games represent one of the first working models for community based policing. Following the chaos resulting from the Rodney King beating, the Hollenbeck Youth Center rolled out the Alatorre/Inner-City Games on the East Side. A year later, Inner-City Games was launched city-wide as a means to unite and heal a city following the Riots of 1992. With the help of the private sector, law enforcement and community volunteers, the Inner-City Games has served as a model for cities across the nation. Now, twenty years later, this model of police, business and local residents working together to ensure a safe and productive environment is known as Community Policing.
